Raid 2 Movie Review & Release Live updates: Ajay Devgn and Riteish Deshmukh starrer off to Rs 10 crore start at the box office

Directed by Rajkumar Gupta, Raid 2 sees Devgn return as the unflinching IRS officer Amay Patnaik, now facing off against a formidable new adversary — a corrupt politician portrayed by Riteish Deshmukh. The film also stars Vaani Kapoor in a pivotal role.
Speaking about casting Deshmukh, Gupta said, “I have liked Riteish’s work for some time. We know he is a fabulous actor in comic roles, in Marathi films as the protagonist, and even in villainous roles. He truly is a fantastic performer. Last year I worked with him on a series where he played the lead, since then he was on my mind. I had decided I will work with him in the future again.”
The director was equally enthusiastic about working with both lead stars. “They both are fabulous actors. They liked the script and immediately agreed to work on the film. Truly loved working with them — they delivered a dhamakedar performance. The audience will love their face-off,” Gupta added.
Raid, released in 2018, was inspired by a real-life income tax raid conducted in the 1980s and featured Ileana D’Cruz and Saurabh Shukla alongside Devgn. The film was praised for its gripping narrative and impactful performances.
Raid 2 now enters a competitive box office weekend, clashing with Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts. Based on the 1997 comic franchise, Thunderbolts continues the legacy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began with Iron Man in 2008 and now spans over 35 films.
With strong advance sales, high audience anticipation, and a star-studded cast, Raid 2 is poised for a powerful opening. The big question now: will it dominate the weekend despite Marvel’s heavyweight presence?
