MCC Revises NEET PG Counselling 2024 Brochure: AFMC Eligibility Criteria, Admission Details Added
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has published a revised information bulletin for the NEET PG 2024 counselling process, which now contains important updates regarding the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) counselling and eligibility requirements.
According to a letter issued on June 26, 2024, the Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) has announced that starting this year, the MCC of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will oversee the counselling process for Priority III, IV, and V candidates seeking admission to Armed Forces Medical Services Postgraduate Teaching Institutes. The DGAFMS will provide the MCC with an eligibility list of Priority III and IV candidates after reviewing their applications.
For Priority V candidates, the detailed scope of the medical examination is available in the information bulletin on the AFMS website. Candidates registering under Priority V will be counselled and provisionally allotted a seat based on their merit and seat availability. The medical examination for these candidates will take place at the institute where they are provisionally assigned. Only those found medically fit will be finally admitted.

NEET PG AFMC Counselling 2024: Important Details
The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) conducts postgraduate training at AFMS PG Teaching Institutes primarily for in-service medical officers to meet specialist requirements. Any surplus seats are offered to eligible civilian candidates based on a priority system approved by the Government of India. Civilian doctors admitted to postgraduate courses (MD/MS/DNB) at AFMS institutions are required to serve as Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSC) for five years in the AFMS.
As per the Government of India’s sanction, remaining seats at AFMS PG Teaching Institutes, after fulfilling AFMS requirements, are made available to other eligible candidates following the priority system outlined in the Ministry of Defence’s letter dated March 6, 2013. The priorities are as follows:
- Priority-I: AFMS officers enrolled in Advanced Specialist Courses/PG courses.
- Priority-II: Foreign students sponsored by the Government and AFMS officers on Study Leave.
- Priority-III: Medical officers sponsored by Para-Military or other Government organizations.
- Priority-IV: Ex-SSC AFMS officers within three years of release.
- Priority-V: Civilian candidates.
NEET PG AFMC 2024 Eligibility Criteria
Admission to the Post Graduate (MD/MS/DNB) courses at Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) institutions is available to graduates of medical colleges recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Candidates must also be registered as medical practitioners with any State Medical Council recognized by the NMC. As per the priorities outlined in the ‘Information Bulletin for PG Courses in AFMS Institutions through NEET PG-2024 and NEET MDS-2024’ available on the AFMS website, all applicants, except for Priority-II candidates, must be Indian citizens.
The DGAFMS will provide the eligibility list for Priority-III and IV candidates to the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
For Priority-V candidates, the maximum age limit is 30 years as of December 31, 2024 (with birthdates on or after January 1, 1995). Detailed guidelines for the medical examination are available in the Information Bulletin on the AFMS website.
What are the minimum requirements for students completing their internship?
Students who have finished or will complete their internship by August 15, 2024, for MD/MS/DNB courses, as per the National Board of Examinations (NBE) guidelines, are eligible to apply or register. However, candidates must have their Provisional Registration Certificate or Permanent Registration Certificate available at the time of admission.
