Kia Syros vs Kia Sonet: Dimensions, features, engine options and differences explained
Kia India recently globally revealed the new Kia Syros compact SUV. The new compact SUV will go on sale in 2025. The prices for the new model will be announced in January at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Show. The company will start accepting bookings on January 3, 2025, and the deliveries will begin on February 2025.
The Syros is the second sub-compact SUV after the Sonet by Kia in India and is slotted between the Sonet and Seltos. The new Syros will compete with the Skoda Kylaq, Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon and other similarly priced compact SUVs. In this article, let’s compare the new Kia Syros with the Kia Sonet.
First let’s compare the variants and pricing, the new Syros is offered in six variants – HTK, HTK (O), HTK Plus, HTX, HTX Plus and HTX Plus (O). The compact SYF is offered in eight colour options – Frost blue, Glacier White Pearl, Sparkling Silver, Intense Red, Imperial Blue, Pewter Olive, Gravity Grey and Aurora Black Pearl. As mentioned previously, the prices of the Syros will be announced at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo.
The Kia Sonet is available in HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX+ and X-line variants and the price starts from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). The Sonet is offered in eight colour options – Glacier White Pearl, Sparkling Silver, Pewter Olive, Intense Red, Aurora Black Pearl, Imperial Blue, Glacier White Pearl With Aurora Black Pearl and Intense Red With Aurora Black Pearl.
Comparing dimensions next, the Syros measures 3,995 mm in length, 1805 mm in width, and 1680 mm in height and has a 2550 mm wheelbase and the ground clearance has not been announced yet. The Sonet measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width, height of 1,610 mm and has a wheelbase of 2,500 mm. It has a ground clearance of 205 mm. Both the Syros and Sonet are identical at 3,995 mm, making them equally compact in length. The Syros is slightly wider at 1,805 mm, compared to the Sonet’s 1,790 mm, offering potentially more cabin or shoulder space. The Syros is also taller at 1,680 mm, while the Sonet measures 1,610 mm, which may give the Syros a more upright stance and additional headroom. The Syros also has a marginally longer wheelbase of 2,550 mm compared to the Sonet’s 2,500 mm.
Let’s talk about features next, the Syros comes packed with features. It gets dual 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment and instrument cluster, a 5-inch screen for the automatic climate control system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, OTA updates for the infotainment system, in-car connectivity tech, all four ventilated seats, reclining and sliding second-row seats with centre armrest and a 60:40 split-folding function, powered driver’s seat, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brake, six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS suite.
The Sonet features an all-black interior theme with features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, leatherette upholstery, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, cruise control, an air purifier, a Bose audio system, UVO-connected car tech, wireless phone charger and much more. Talking about safety, it gets camera-based ADAS, six airbags, ESC, front and rear parking sensors and much more.
Comparing the engine options next, the Sonet is offered in three engine options – an 83 hp 1.2-litre NA Petrol engine, a 120 hp 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine and a 115 hp 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual with the 1.2-litre NA Petrol, iMT or DCT with the 1.0-litre Petrol, a 6-speed manual or a torque converter AT with the 1.5 turbo diesel.
The Syros gets two engine options – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo-petrol which puts out 120hp of power and 172Nm torque. It comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT. Another engine is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel with 115hp of power and 250Nm torque. It comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
