Girish Kumar: Once a Bollywood actor, now a ₹10,000 crore business Tycoon

Girish Kumar made his Bollywood debut in 2013 with Ramaiya Vastavaiya, directed by Prabhu Deva. Despite being the son of renowned producer Kumar Taurani, his acting career was short-lived, marked by only two films. After facing setbacks, he transitioned to a successful corporate role as COO of Tips Industries, now valued at ₹4,700 crore.
‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’, directed by Prabhu Deva, is a remake of his Telugu film ‘Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana’ and stars Shruti Haasan alongside Girish Kumar. The film’s music was popular, but it performed only moderately at the box office. Girish received some praise and was nominated for Best Debut at three award shows. He later appeared in just one more film, ‘Loveshhuda’, a romantic comedy with Navneet Kaur Dhillon, released in 2016. After that film’s poor reception, Girish chose to leave acting, but his family background kept him connected to the film industry.
Girish is the son of film producer Kumar S. Taurani and the nephew of Ramesh S. Taurani, founders of Tips Industries, a major company in the Indian entertainment industry. After leaving acting, Girish joined the family business and now serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Tips Industries. As of December 2024, the company has a market cap of ₹10,517 crore.
Kumar’s share in the family business has helped him build significant wealth, making him richer than many of his more successful peers. According to Trendlyne, his net worth is around ₹2,164 crore.
Girish is married to Krsna, and they have one child together. The family resides in Mumbai, where he works as a promoter and executive with Tips Music.
