Ferry with passengers capsizes near Gateway of India in Mumbai; rescue operations underway | India News
NEW DELHI: A passenger ferry, Neelkamal, capsized near Uran and Karanja while en route to Elephanta Island from Mumbai’s iconic Gateway of India on Wednesday.
Initial reports suggest the ferry was carrying approximately 30 to 35 passengers, though the exact number remains unconfirmed.
The videos of the incident that soon emerged afterwards showed ongoing rescue operations.
The Mumbai Police, Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) joined forces for the rescue mission. Three police boats from the Yellow Gate Police Station and local fishing vessels are also aiding the efforts.
The cause of the accident is yet to be determined as authorities are focusing on locating survivors.
