Amit Shah eyes intel synergy with 'friendly' nations

NEW DELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah Monday stressed the need to develop an intelligence coordination strategy with ‘friendly’ nations to detect anti-India outfits and networks and include offensive measures as part of this strategy.
Delivering the 37th Intelligence Bureau centenary endowment lecture here, Shah underlined that just sharing information with friendly nations was not enough and it must be also ensured that India receives vital intelligence from them.
Pointing to intensified and emerging challenges such as attacks on critical infrastructure, cyber attacks, information warfare, psychological warfare, chemical warfare and the radicalisation of youth, the minister said he was confident that the security agencies would be able to confront these threats with readiness and vigilance. He told senior police and intelligence officers in audience to be prepared to tackle them with new methods and “out of the box” solutions that go beyond traditional approaches.
As the challenges evolve, our strategies must also change, he said
He noted that the time had come to use blockchain analysis tools for crypto currency. He highlighted the need to take prompt and decisive action against hoax calls and fake emails, saying the country’s enemies were successfully creating an atmosphere of fear and terror among the public through these means. Stressing on need to build a robust ecosystem to counter misinformation, he called for a mix of strategy, technology & readiness to reduce the spread of propaganda to zero.
In the coming days, he said, intelligence and law enforcement agencies must increase use of AI and machine learning. “To achieve a fully developed India by 2047, we must visualise all potential threats and prepare a comprehensive roadmap to safeguard the nation from them. Inclusive development, along with peace and stability in the country, is only possible if we reshape our work in accordance with this expanded definition, prepare anew and remain vigilant,” he said.
Praising Intelligence Bureau for its working methodology, Shah said its vigilance, proactiveness, decisive role and tradition of sacrifice and dedication have kept the country safe.
