Kia Carens Clavis EV launch tomorrow: Changes over petrol, diesel versions

Kia India is all set to launch the Carens Clavis EV tomorrow, thereby debuting in the Indian mass-market EV segment. The Clavis EV comes with several changes inside and out to distinguish it from its petrol and diesel siblings, which were launched recently. Here’s a quick look at what specific changes does the new Kia EV boast over its ICE counterpart.
Kia Clavis EV: Changes over petrol, diesel versions
Visually, the Clavis EV features a more aerodynamic look. The front grille has been sealed off and now houses the charging port in the centre. Furthermore, it gets a full-width light bar that connects the triple-pod LED headlamps up front, giving the EV a more futuristic appearance. Below that, the redesigned front bumper houses LED fog lamps, while a new skid plate adds to the revised look. At the rear too, expect subtle tweaks, including an updated bumper and EV-specific badges. The alloy wheels have also been swapped for new aerodynamically styled units to reduce drag.
Inside the cabin, the EV experience takes center stage. Kia has gone for a black and white dual-tone finish and a modern layout. A new floating center console replaces the traditional gear lever setup, making room for added storage. The Carens Clavis EV also gets a two-spoke steering wheel and twin 12.3-inch digital displays – one for the instrument cluster and the other for infotainment – just like the ICE version. Other highlights include ambient lighting, roof-mounted rear AC vents, wireless charging, and Kia’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature, which allows the car to power external devices.Under the skin, the Clavis EV will come equipped with Kia’s i-Pedal technology, enabling one-pedal driving. Multiple levels of regenerative braking will also be available, likely adjustable via paddle shifters. The top variants could offer Level 2 ADAS, integrating features like adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist with regenerative braking systems. One key difference in seating layout is that the Carens Clavis EV will likely be available only in a 7-seater configuration at launch, with no 6-seat option on offer. While Kia hasn’t officially confirmed the battery pack details or electric motor specs, the EV is expected to come with either a 42 kWh or a 51.4 kWh battery pack. What has been confirmed, however, is the range: up to 490 km on a single charge as per IDC standards.
