Chhattisgarh advances school vacation amid soaring temperatures and heatwave alert
Chhattisgarh summer holidays 2025: Chhattisgarh has announced that it will prepone the summer holidays for all schools in the state, starting from April 25, 2025. The decision has been made in response to the rising temperatures and severe heatwave conditions across the region, with temperatures crossing 44°C in many areas. The state government, concerned about the health and safety of students, has taken the step to prevent any adverse effects of the extreme heat.
The summer vacation was initially scheduled to begin on May 1, 2025, and run until June 15, 2025. However, with the onset of the intense heatwave, the government has decided to adjust the dates to protect children. The new vacation period will start from April 25 and continue until June 15, 2025. The decision only affects students, and teachers will continue their duties as per the regular schedule.
Rising temperatures and heatwave conditions
The state has been experiencing soaring temperatures, with several districts reporting heatwave conditions. The highest temperature recorded in the state was 44.4°C in Raipur on April 22, 2025. According to the meteorological centre in Raipur, temperatures are expected to remain between 43-45°C in districts such as Bilaspur, Durg, and Raipur divisions for the next five days. The meteorological department has predicted that heatwave conditions will continue in isolated pockets of northern and central Chhattisgarh for the next few days.
In response to these conditions, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai took to social media platform X to announce the early start of the summer holidays. In his post, the chief minister emphasised the importance of protecting students’ health, urging them to stay indoors, drink plenty of water, and engage in creative activities at home. He also advised children to avoid going out in the scorching sun.
Health risks and preventive measures
The government’s decision to bring forward the summer break is aimed at mitigating the health risks posed by prolonged exposure to extreme heat. With temperatures continuing to rise, experts have warned about the potential dangers, such as heatstroke, dehydration, and exhaustion. The move to close schools early is a precautionary step to safeguard children’s well-being during this intense heatwave.
The announcement has been welcomed by many parents and educators who agree that students’ safety should be the top priority in such extreme weather conditions. While the vacation dates have been adjusted, teachers will continue their duties to ensure that the academic schedule is not disrupted.
