Horns may soon sound like flute, tabla under Gadkari’s new proposal: Details
Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has floated the idea of a unique new rule, making vehicle horns sound more pleasant by replacing the current harsh ones with the melodies of Indian musical instruments. Speaking at the 78th Foundation Day celebration of Navbharat Times, Gadkari said he is considering introducing a law that would require all vehicle horns to mimic sounds like those of the flute, tabla, violin, and harmonium.
The minister explained that the goal is to reduce noise pollution and make Indian roads more bearable for the ears. He stressed the importance of making urban environments healthier not just through air quality improvements but also by tackling sound pollution.
Gadkari also pointed out that nearly 40 per cent of India’s air pollution comes from the transport sector. To address this, the government has been pushing for green mobility solutions, including vehicles that run on bio-fuels such as ethanol and methanol. He highlighted that the government is focused on sustainable transport options that align with environmental goals.
Reflecting on the growth of the automobile industry, Gadkari said that India’s auto sector has expanded significantly over the past decade. In 2014, the sector was worth Rs 14 lakh crore; today, it stands at Rs 22 lakh crore. He added that India has now overtaken Japan to become the third-largest automobile market in the world, just behind the US and China. (Inputs from PTI).
