Delhi Capitals mid-season review: Can new-look Capitals finally go all the way? | Cricket News

Delhi Capitals are comfortably sitting at the second position on the points table after 7 games with 5 wins and just 2 losses so far in the tournament. This has been one of their best starts to an IPL season and the team looks more balanced than ever. Under the new leadership group and with a few smart changes, DC has suddenly become one of the teams to beat this season.

The biggest positive for Delhi this season has been KL Rahul, who has been asked to bat at no.4 instead of opening. So far, he has scored 266 runs at an average of 53.20 and a strike rate of 158.33, including a classy 93* against RCB. Tristan Stubbs has also played crucial cameos for them, accumulating 183 runs at a strike rate of 160.53.
Who’s that IPL player?
In the bowling department, Mitchell Starc has been their go-to man with 10 wickets to his name. His super over heroics against Rajasthan Royals and tight death bowling have given DC the edge in crunch moments. Apart from him, Kuldeep Yadav is their leading wicket-taker with 12 wickets at an average of 14.58 and an impressive economy of 6.25.

What do you think is the biggest strength of the Delhi Capitals this season?
Misses
Despite the strong start, Delhi’s top order has looked a bit shaky at times. The openers have failed to consistently give strong starts and Jake Fraser-McGurk has been a total disaster so far. The injury to Faf du Plessis hasn’t helped their cause either. Now the onus is on the new opening pair of Karun Nair and Abhishek Porel to provide stability and set the tone early in the innings, something DC has been missing so far.
In the bowling unit, while Kuldeep has been brilliant, the support from other spinners has been underwhelming. Captain Axar Patel has managed to take just 1 wicket so far in the tournament. The only other spinner who has chipped in decently is Vipraj Nigam, who has picked up 7 wickets — but beyond that, DC’s spin depth still looks a bit thin. If Starc has an off day, the attack does look slightly toothless at the death.
Playoffs Chances
With 5 wins in 7 games, Delhi Capitals are in a strong position and would only need 3 more wins in their remaining 7 games to seal a playoff spot. The bigger question though — can this Delhi team, which has always promised but never delivered, finally go all the way and lift their maiden IPL trophy?
