Abdullah Shafique: Duck tales! Pakistan opener fails to score a single run in an entire series | Cricket News
NEW DELHI: Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique has created an unfortunate record in cricket by becoming the first batsman to register ducks in all matches of a three-match ODI series against South Africa. The 25-year-old Pakistani opener’s third duck in Johannesburg established him as the Pakistan opener with the highest number of ducks in a calendar year, recording seven ducks in 21 innings during 2024.
He has exceeded the previous records of Imran Nazir, who had six ducks in 32 innings in 2000, and Mohammed Hafeez, who recorded the same number in 43 innings in 2012.
The global record for most ducks in a calendar year stands at eight, jointly held by Herschelle Gibbs (51 innings in 2002) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (56 innings in 2012).
